As India’s leading shipyard, the company manufactures state-of-the-art warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, offshore platforms and associated support vessels for offshore oil drilling. It also builds tankers, cargo bulk carriers, passenger ships and ferries. After its establishment in the 18th century, the ownership of the yards passed through several entities. Eventually, It was registered as a public company in 1934 and is now a public sector undertaking of the Government of India.
Background
Committed to keeping up the ongoing digitization of their business, the shipyard wanted to upgrade its SAP enterpriseresource planning (ERP) environment from the ECC platform to S4HANA Enterprise Management—the latest SAP Business Suite software based on in-memory SAP HANA technology. Besides the need to address forthcoming system and strategic risks, they also wanted to modernise their infrastructure and operations.

After an initial assessment, Cryptograph Technologies recommended a phased migration from SAP ECCEHP 8 to SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 of around 9 modules including:

Progress & results
With over 39 reports to be implemented for BW, 8 dashboards for BusinessObjects (SAP BO) and 50 applications for Fiori, the migration is making steady and successful progress. Around 154 server-side business apps are to be migrated from Java Web Dynpro to ABAP Web Dynpro.
Despite several operational and timeline challenges owing to complexity of government data protection and security clearances, the overall implementation by Cryptograph Technologies is scheduled for timely delivery and is likely to result in improved performance efficiencies for for the shipyard.

Strategically located in Vishakapatnam, India’s largest public-sector shipyard primarily undertakes ship building, ship repair and submarine building/retrofitting activities. With direct sea access and and decades of vessel-building expertise, the shipyard is a leading service provider to the defence and maritime sectors. The company was nationalized in 1961 and was transferred from the Ministry of Shipping to the Ministry of Defence in 2010.
Background
As part of a modernization program funded by the Indian Ministry of Defence, the company is currently undergoing several systemic and infrastructural upgrades to meet the futuristic requirements of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. In the efforts to facilitate a seamless flow of information and adopt best practices from other Indian and foreign shipyards, it has to implement and integrate SAP ERP with product lifecycle management (PLM) design software products. Before the implementation, the shipyard was running RAMCO e-applications.

We split the modules into two phases, the core ECC ones are to be implemented first. In the second phase RE, BI and the customer and supplier portals will be implemented. After 52 weeks of implementation for about 4100 licenses, Cryptograph Technologies will also provide ongoing support to the company.
